Our Senior hurlers have a magnificent victory after extra-time on Sunday morning in the AHL2 promotion playoff against Naomh Fionbarra.
The game started of evenly with Ballinteer just edging it three points to to when Finbar’s struck the first goal of the game, pushing them two points in front. Finbar’s and Aodhan Clabby traded points before half-time making it 1-03 to 0-04.
Both teams took some excellent scores at the start of the second half and were matching each other until Finbar’s got their second goal of the game to make it 2-07 to 0-09 and open up a four point gap with 15 minutes to go. Ballinteer got themselves back into it though with fours scores in a row to make it level with just minutes to go. Finbar’s then got what was thought to be the winning score, until Aodhan Clabby stepped up to the plate again to slot over a fine free to bring the game to extra-time, 2-08 to 14.
The sides still couldn’t be seperated early on in extra-time and traded two scores each until Ballinteer got two on the trot just before half-time to make 0-18 to 2-10. Fearghal Duffy, slotted a point over to match an early Finbar’s score in the second half until Ballinteer went on a flourish including an opportunistic goal from Fearghal Duffy, flicking the ball over the goalkeepers head. The game ended 1-21 to 2-12 and Ballinteer with play with the big boys next year in Division 1.
