Ballinteer and Annes must do it all again

The Ballinteer St Johns Senior Football team took on St Annes last night in the AIB Cup Semi-Final on the All Weather Pitch in Ballinteer. It was a very exciting game and certainly one for the neutral. Ballinteer were completely dominate in the opening exchanges and ended leading 1-04 to 0-02 with 20 minutes gone. St Annes came fighting back however and got a goal of their own to close the gap but Ballinteer just seemed to go from strength to strength and Frankie Ward nestled another ball in the net for Ballinteer and they went in at half time leading 2-06 to 1-02.

The second half was a completely different game and St. Annes start a fight back by knocking over a fews good points but so were Ballinteer and always kept distance between the teams. As the game went into injury time 3 points seperated the sides, when a St Annes man went down in the big sqaure and the referee controversially awarded a penalty from what seemed to be minimal contact. James Tuney made a wonderful save from the penalty and after one missed rebound, Annes finally put the ball over the line to level the teams. The match now goes to a replay and the time and date will be confirmed in the coming days.
