Ballinteer and Lavey Féile friends meet again at intercounty level

The spirit of Féile continues to burn brightly years after Erin’s Own GAC Lavey hosted Ballinteer St Johns in the national finals of Féile Dhoire with a hospitality that will never be forgotten in these parts. Brendan Laverty played midfield for Lavey on that June 2010 day when the two sides met in football. He wore his county colours proudly then as, creid nó ná creid, Lavey’s strip is identical to that of BSJ and the rules required the host club to change in these circumstances. Last Saturday he wore them again, this time wearing number 6, and Hurling for his county minor team against a Dublin Under 17 squad featuring Enda Larkin, Iarlaith MacGabhann and Robert Aherne from Ballinteer. Robert was a guest in Brendan’s home over the 3 days in 2010 and was delighted to renew the acquaintance on the pitch again. Brendan, in the blue helmet, was in the thick of the action throughout but the Derry team was outclassed on the day and came off second best this time out. We look forward our next meeting and hope it

will be soon.
