This was the moment that broke Ballinteer hearts, when St Brigids took the lead for the last time with a stunning 2nd half goal that would ultimately provide the winning margin. Brigids pushed on to open up a 5 point lead before our lads were able to haul it back to 2, inspired by a superb Robert Aherne point from the touchline after winning possession tenaciously and a rousing sprint in front of the home supporters.
Our lads gave it everything against a very strong Brigids side who had a little more in the tank in the closing stages. It was a big ask for our heroes, particularly those who had turned out for the U21s in atrocious conditions less than 24 hours previously on the same sodden pitch, but they answered the call and did themselves, their team, their management, their club and parish proud in Marlay Park on Sunday. The match finished BSJ 1-13 1-16 St Brigids. It is not to be the final flourish on which to end their Minor careers that our lads who now progress to Adult Hurling dreamed of … but what days we’ve had together ! We thank them and their current management team of Ken, Cathal & Joe and those who have gone before. Go mba fada buan sibh.
