Cumann Naomh Eoin
Ballinteer St Johns Launch of 30th Anniversary Celebrations
A chairde uilig,
As Chairman I am delighted and honoured to officially launch our 30th Anniversary celebrations. In 1982 a small group from the area met to form the club from what was then a thinly populated area. Never did they foresee from such a humble beginning the massive development of the club both on and off the field in the years that followed. All of our playing and non-playing members can be proud of these developments and the huge role the club now plays in the local community. The club is now a true community club in that within its 60 teams and four nurseries it caters for all ages, male and female and across the four codes. Our infrastructural developments over the past ten years have played a major part in the massive growth in the number of members. This in turn leads to the need for the club to create and maintain strong bonds with all of its members, both new and existing. My hope is that this year will encourage the large numbers of newer members who have joined the club in the past few years to develop stronger ties with all aspects of the club.
This anniversary year will see many social and playing activities to cater for all ages with the main events centred around the May Bank Holiday weekend. Full details of all the events will be posted on our special “BSJ 30” web page. Our BSJ web page will include features on notable club occasions that have taken place over the 30 years with “Down Memory Lane”, Video Interviews and culminating in a special 30th Anniversary Year Book. To get the ball rolling our first feature is by Sean Mc Connell, a member and former Irish Times correspondent, on issues that arose long before any of our members graced the field of play. Finally I would like to thank the 30Th Anniversary Committee for their effort and commitment in making the year what we all hope will be an enjoyable and worthy experience for all.
