Sunday morning in O’Toole park, our Under 21 footballers took on Thomas Davis in the Dublin ‘B’ Championship Final. They got off to an absolute flyer hitting 7 unanswered points in the first 20 minutes and Thomas Davis didn’t know what had hit them. Great scores from Robbie Gaughan, Aodhan Clabby and Glenn Whelan helped them along their way.
Aodhan, aka The Hulk, was making a nuisance of himself in full-forward, winning everything – so much so, that the full-back was substituted after 20 minutes. Davis’ finally found their feet in the last 10 minutes however and knocked over 4 points with Ballinteer only getting 1 in response. At half-time, the scoreboard read BSJ 0-08 Davis 0-04.
The second half started as the first ended with the Kiltipper men on the front foot and at one point had it back to 1 point at 8 points to 7. But Ballinteer sprung back into life 10 minutes into the second half and never looked back. They scored 5 points unanswered and the full time was greeted by massive celebrations by players and fans alike.
The cup was presented by County Board Chairman Andy Kettle after the full time whistle and was followed a speeches from captain Stephen Fitzsimons and chairman Peadar O’Shea. The photographers present got their photos, as a ‘pile-on’ ensued, as cries of "Be careful, Parish Cup is next week!" were heard.
Congratulations to all the players and management involved and fingers crossed this success can be carried on next season throughout the club.
