Camogie Update Monday 12th March 2012

Senior League 2 Sunday 11th March

Naomh Padraig/Na Cloighthi 2 – 4 :  Ballinteer St Johns 1 – 6

The senior camogie team commenced the 2012 league season yesterday, going down to the narrowest of margins against Naomh Padraig/Na Cloighthi in Palmerstown.

The Ballinteer girls started strongly, but a determined St Pats/Round Towers  opposition played themselves back into the match by halftime, and lead by a point at the break.

The home side pushed on early in the second half, but BSJ rallied and put in a very strong finish only for the final whistle to deny a storming finish and a chance of victory, or a least a draw.

A very encouraging start to the campaign for the girls who showed great heart and fighting spirit to the end. All the squad are looking forward to the next match at home to Portobello in Marlay Park on April 1st.

Senior League 7 Sunday 11th March

Ballinteer St Johns 5 – 3 : St Finians 0 – 0

The club camogie second team notched up another fine win yesterday, beating St Finians by 18 points in the afternoon home game. Exerting tremendous  pressure on their northside opponents from the throw-in, the BSJ girls were unlucky not to be more than 3 points up at half time – the strong breeze favouring St Finians helping their cause to hold out under sustained attacks from the BSJ forwards and midfield players. After the halftime break,

BSJ scored two quick goals which put the result beyond doubt and ended the game as a contest. Not only did the team score a very healthy 5-3, but shutting out the opposition and holding them scoreless to the final whistle  demonstrates how much control BSJ had throughout the match.  Two wins from two starts for the girls so far this season, and superb performances by all the players, including subs, augurs well for the future.
