Erins Isle get the better of Senior Footballers as Junior As and Bs win

Our Senior footballers travelled to Finglas on Saturday evening to take on Erins Isle in the last league encounter before the second round of the Championship. Always a tough place to go, Erins Isle took the lead early on and held it for the rest of the game. They lead 0-07 to 0-04 at half time – points from Fearghal Duffy, Shane McCann Breandan Colleran and Paul Cronin keeping Ballinteer in touch.

Glenn Whelan got Ballinteer off to the perfect start in the second half with a point but a quick 2-01 scored by Erins Isle but them 2-08 to 0-06 up after Duffy got another score for Ballinteer. Ballinteer didn’t give up and an inspirational Fearghal Duffy dragged Ballinteer back into the game and when a point from him, a goal from McCann and two from Breandan closed the gap gap to two points they were in the ascendency. However they got caught on the break and another goal for Isles late on closed off the game. It ended 3-11 to 1-10.

The Junior A footballers took on Naomh Mearnog in Marley Park on Friday night and had a fantastic 3-16 to 1-06 victory. Two goals from Gary Mitchell and one from Michael Mitchell helped them along the way as well as fantastic performances from Conor Carroll, Frankie Ward, Sean O’Reilly and Denis Collins. Also, it was fantastic to see that every player from number 7 upwards got on the scoresheet.

Our Junior Bs played against Wild Geese on Sunday morning in Old Town and had a great win 2-12 to 2-07. Goals from Conor Conway and John Hickey helped then along way and this win moves them up to joint fourth in the league.

The Junior Cs played out a thrilling draw with Good Counsel on Sunday afternoon 0-18 to 4-06 which leave them on six points from six games in the league and in a healthy mid table position
