The Senior footballers capped off a great week this morning with a tremendous win over the St. Marks, to win their third game straight in AFL 2. After previously having disposed of table-toppers St. Maurs and St Peregrines they added St Marks to the list today.
The game looked like it could of been a tight affair after St Marks were creating a few chances but couldn’t put any of them away. Then Ballinteer started to perform. Inspired by Johnny McNally, they took an 8 point lead. Johnny was knocking over free after free while Mark Kavanagh and Sean O’Reilly were chipping in with a few points. Then Conor Parker-McCabe caught a St Marks kick out and went on a solo run through the heart of the Marks defence and buried a shot into the back of the net. Ballinteer went in 1-09 to 0-03 up at the break.
There was more of the same in the second half and Ballinteer extended their lead to 14 points at one point. However in injury time, St Marks scored 2 goals (one a penalty) to make the scoreline a bit more respectable. The game ended 1-20 to 2-07.
