Juniors As & Bs win as Senior Footballers are beaten by Brigids

Our Senior footballers took on Brigids last Wednesday in Russell Park in another Division 1 league game. In what has been a busy few weeks for the team, they were hoping to build on there two wins in a row against Castleknock and Judes. Brigids were gifted an early but BSJ battled back with four of the next five points to make it 1-01 to 4 after 20 minutes. Brigids knocked over the next three points though to lead 1-04 to 0-04 at half time.

Ballinteer had it all to do, playing into the wind in the second half and it went from bad to worse when Brigids buried the ball in the back of the net two minutes into the half to extend their lead to six minutes. Ballinteer fought hard and a goal (from Donal Gormley) and a point brought them back to two points. The teams exchanged scores for the next 7 or 8 minutes but Ballinteer just couldn’t find the goal they needed to win the game and it ended 2-07 to 1-08 to Brigids.

Our Junior A’s were away to Ballymun Kickams on Tuesday night. After a win against Ballyboden, it was important to keep the run going after a difficult start to the season. Shane Holland moving from his normal full back position to full forward assisted Sean O’Reilly in scoring our opening goal resulting in BSJ having a one point lead at half time.

A massive effort was put in in the middle the pitch by Niall Dunphy, DJ Corbett and Ciaran Gormely ably assisted by Ciaran McCabe attacking from the half back line. With the game in the melting pot the pressure was eased by an important save by our keeper David Quinn followed by a wonderful goal by Mitch Moddy until finally DJ Corbett switching to full forward caught a perfectly placed pass from Gormely and put the result beyond doubt. A 5 point win for BSJ.

The Junior B team made the long mid week trip to North Dublin to play Garristown. The performance was more workmanlike than vintage. We lead by 7 pts at half time having dominated proceedings and ran out eventual winners on a scoreline of 1-15 to 10.

Our Junior C team lost on a score 3-12 to 2-12 to Croi Ro Naofa. Missing 6 of the team that won the previous week. While they got the first goal early, they weren’t at the races early on, even though they had the wind and hill. Draw at half time. Second half was much improved into wind and sun, we led by 2 points with 8 mins to go but conceded a late goal to eventually come out on the wrong end of the result.
