BSJ senior ladies football team have qualified for Division 3 Cup final to be played on our all weather pitch on Wednesday 11th September at 8 pm.
This is a fantastic achievement for the senior ladies and what an occasion it will be for BSJ to host a cup final on the all weather pitch under lights! It would be brilliant to get as much support there as possible from juvenile through to seniors!
And what a path to the final it’s been! Inspirational stuff from our senior ladies football team. The scene is set for an exciting final! We hope to see as many there as possible to cheer them on!
The Path to the Cup Final:
The initial rounds of the competition was run on a league basis with 12 teams involved and each team playing each other. The top 4 then qualifying for the semi finals, it was a very competitive competition and we ended up in 4th place meaning an away semifinal against a very good Kilmacud Crokes team who had lost only one game in all competitions this year. The semi final was a fantastic game and after a great first half from the BSJ girls we lead by six at the break. The lead was extended to seven early in the second half however a harsh yellow card meant the team were reduced to 14 players for 10 minutes. The girls battled extremely hard during this period of sustained Crokes pressure and a break away goal meant they maintained their 7 point lead. With 10 minutes to go the lead was still 7 when the BSJ goalkeeper while attempting to save a goal received a yellow card. The team were reduced to 14 again for the last 10 minutes with a lead of just 4 points The girls were out on their feet but refused to be beaten and played some great football to hold on for a deserved 3 point victory. The final against St Judes should be another tense tight affair as each team boasts a victory in their previous 2 meetings.
Thank you to Eamonn for a great review of their journey!
