Senior and Junior A footballers lose to last minute goals

Last minute goals proved to be vital in both the Senior and Junior A match this weekend and unfortuately they went against Ballinteer in both instances.

At Half 10 on Sunday morning, our Senior team took on Cuala, on the All Weather Pitch, in the first League game on the season. Ballinteer got off the a good start and good points from Shane McCann and frees from Sean O’Reilly and Johnny McNally had Ballinteer leading 0-06 to 0-02 at half time, with a big wind to defend against in the second half. The performance in the second half was considerably better and Ballinteer defended with great strength and determination. Cuala got themselves back into the game with a goal but after Paddy Corcoran put over two pressure points it looked like Ballinteer had done enough. However, 6 minutes into injury time Cuala had an effort tipped on the crossbar but dispatched the rebound into the net to take the lead for the first time in the match. The final whistle sounded almost immediately after.

Attentions then moved to Ballycullen, where out Junior A team took on Ballyboden in their first league game. After a good first half, Ballinteer lead by 4 points at half time and looked set to cruise to victory as they were playing with a strong breeze in the second half. The second half panned out this way and great defence work and attack had the lads leading by 6 points with four minutes to go. Concentration slipped however and Ballyboden scored 2-01 in these four minutes to snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat.
