Our Senior football team had a magnificent win over St Maurs last night in the AFL2. St Maurs went into the game having not lost a game while Ballinteer went into the game having not won a game.
Ballinteer started off with a real intensity and took an early lead with some great frees from Johnny McNally. Paraic O’Connor chipped in and a few more scores Johnny McNally had Ballinteer leading 7 points to 6 at half time.
The second half started as the first ended with St Johns getting off the mark straight away. St Maurs were keeping in touch however, continuing to tip over free kicks and got it back level at one point at 9 points a piece. Ballinteer however pushed and took a 3 point lead with 2 magnificent scores from Shane McCann and an equally magnificent score from Ciaran Gormley.
St Maurs were handed a lifeline however, when Mark Kavanagh was shown a second yellow card for a seemingly harmless challenge but this only seemed to spur Ballinteer on. They eventually stretched their lead out to 6 points before Maurs were also reduced to 14 men shortly before the full time whistle. The match ended 0-16 to 0-10.
