Our Senior footballers kept their Playoff hopes very much alive last night with a magnificent victory over Castleknock on the All Weather Pitch. Granted they still need other results to go their way and they need to beat an on-song Naomh Barrog team on Saturday week, it really has been a tremedous turn around. Having lost their first six matches in the league this year, the promotion playoffs seemed like a distant dream but Frank Clabby and co. have dramatically changed the fortunes of this team.
They got off to a flying start last night notching up a quick fire 2-05 in the first 15 minutes before Castleknock even had a shot. The goals coming from Shane McCann and Fearghal Duffy while Paul Cronin, Aodhan Clabby and Breandan Coleran were slotting over some lovely scores. Eleven points up and dominating in attack, the tide began to turn when Castleknock started to get a foothold in the match and treated the crowd an exhibition of point taking scoring ten of the next eleven points and half time arrived with only two points seperating the teams. 2–06 to 0-10.
Ballinteer started the second half how they started the first and scored 1-03 within five minutes – Shane McCann with another glorious finish for the three pointer. Once again however, Castleknock would not go away and popped over four on the trot, closing the gap to four. A few points were traded between the teams until James Olivers delicate chip over the Goalkeeper extended Ballinteers lead to nine points with only minutes remaining. The teams traded points again and Castleknock scored a consolation goal in injury time leaving the final score 4-14 to 1-17.
