Our Senior hurlers took on Raheny last night in the AHL 2 promotion playoff semi-final on the All Weather Pitch. The winners would meet Naomh Fionbarra in the final this Sunday and Ballinteer got off to the perfect start when 5 minutes Aodhan Clabby buried a rebound, from a Fergal Chambers shot, into the back of the net to give Ballinteer the advantage early on.
Raheny answered back though with 2 quick points before Glenn Whelan got one back. Aodhan slotted another over the bar before Raheny hit the next three to draw it level and make it 1-02 to 5. Ballinteer however were quick to bite back and scored three points on the trot – two from Joey Maher and one from Aodhan before Raheny pull it back to three points on the stroke of half-time.
In the second half, Ballinteer got the perfect start again when Ciaran Lane’s tidy finish was too good for the Raheny goalkeeper and sneaked in corner of the goal for a six point cushion. Fergal Chambers and Aodhan Clabby added to the goal and Ballinteer stretched out to 8 points. However Raheny hit the next five on the trot to bring int back to three points and give Ballinteer a reminder that they were still in a match. Fearghal Duffy then came on and, using his trademark speed, beat his man with pace and slotted a ball into the corner to move Ballinteer six points clear. Glenn and Aodhan, traded points with Raheny before the end and the game finished 3-10 to 0-13.
