Our senior hurlers recorded the first victory of their 2011 AHL 1 campaign with a hard fought win over our near neighbours Kilmacud Crokes in Marlay Park last night. The win means we now have 3 points from 3 games after earning a highly creditable draw against county champions Ballyboden St Endas in the first game of the year.
The first half was a scrappy affair with both sides struggling to deal with the greasy conditions but in spite of this we held a narrow advantage at half time. The second half saw our lads really begin to assert their class on the game. Excellent scores by Fergal Chambers and Joe Maher pushed us into a commanding lead and in spite of a Kilmacud goal midway through the half we were still well on top, with Fionan Clabby and Ronan Collins in particular outstanding in defence. Points from Seanie Lane and Aodhan Clabby sealed the 5 point victory which will give the lads massive confidence as they face into the club’s first ever Senior A Championship campaign.
The final score was Ballinteer St Johns 0-14 Kilmacud Crokes 1-6.
