Our Senior hurlers finished the group stages of the championship in spectacular fashion on Sunday with a fantastic 3-15 to 0-08 victory over St. Oliver Plunketts in O’Toole Park. Stand-out performances from Glenn Whelan at wing-forward, Ciaran Lane at full-forward and Cormac O’Brien in full-back helped Ballinteer get a big enough victory to put them on top of the group to points difference.

Plunketts actually started the game brighly and put two early scores on the board before Glenn Whelan and a Joey Maher free drew Ballinteer level. From there they never looked back. Whelan buried a goal past the Plunketts goalkeeper, after tremendous stick-work to keep the chance alive. Ciaran Lane quickly followed up with another point and all of a sudden Ballinteer were foour points clear. Whelan, Chambers, Lane and Aodhan Clabby stuck over four more points before Ciaran Lane popped up to score Ballinteers second goal of the game. The sides traded points before half-time and Ballinteer went in 2-08 to 0-03 ahead.

Straight after half-time, Ballinteer and Glenn Whelan took up where they had left off and Whelan was presented with a one-on-one chance which rocketed into the top corner making the score 3-08 to 0-03. Joey Maher slotted over 3 frees, while Whelan got another 2. Fergal Chambers and Aodhan Clabby scored one more a piece to make the final score 3-15 to 0-08.

Ballinteer now await the Quarter-Final draw and will be looking to advance as far as possible in this years championship.
