Our Senior hurlers recorded a magnificent victory over local rivals Kilmacud Crokes last weekend, easing the pressure of relegation for the time being and moving them ahead of Ballyboden in the league.
With Crokes in the top five, Ballinteer went into the match in Silver Park as underdogs, but that certainly didn’t show as they flew into a 1-03 to 0-01 lead in the first ten minutes, with points from Glenn Whelan and Aodhan Clabby (2), followed by a James Gilligan three pointer. The teams traded points then throughout the first half until Clabby struck a sweet ball into the top right hand corner for Ballinteer’s second goal. Crokes got a lucky break before half-time however when a long ball in struck the thigh of David Harney and ended up in the net. Ballinteer led 2-07 to 1-07 at half-time.
The second half started out a bit scrappy and Crokes were getting the breaks. By the 50th minute, they had turn the three point deficit into a one point lead and turned that into a two point lead right on the 60 minute mark. However, as we’ve learnt, these Ballinteer lads just don’t know when to give up. Clabby (2), Keith Nolan and Fergal Chambers rattled off four quick-fire scores, to turn the game on its head in injury-time. Crokes got the last score but it was too late and Ballinteer recorded a one point win – 2-12 to 1-14.
