Our Senior footballers took on St Pats of Donabate in Donabate on Saturday and recored a victory over them for the first time in recent memory. Always a tough place to go, the lads expected a tight affair and the weather conditions made sure it wouldn’t be a stylish game.
Leading 0-06 : 0-04 at the break Ballinteer dominated possesion and were unlucky to only be two points ahead at half time. Pats came out flying in the second half and kicked two scores to Ballinteer’s one in the opening minutes to leave just a point in the difference. However a superbly worked goal finished off by Shane McCann stretched Ballinteers lead and they never looked back. Some fine scores from Fearghal Duffy, Robbie Gaughan and a returning Ciaran Judge helped Ballinteer to a 1-14 to 0-06 victory in the end. They also had some fantastic performances in defence with Davy Devereux and Jamie O’Connor standing out in particular.
Our Junior As also had a tricky encounter against St Sylvesters in Marley Park on Sunday morning and won a very tight affair 0-08 to 0-07. Some great scores in the first half from Peter McGlynn and Paul Farrell kept Ballinteer in touch at half time and trailing 0-05 to 0-03. A cagey second half turned to excitement as Sean Smith pulled Ballinteer level at 7 points a piece in injury time. There was time for one last attack however and a beauty from Paul Farrell snuck over the cross bar with the last kick of the game to hand Ballinteer the victory.
Our Junior Bs game was postponed while our Junior Cs went down to St Annes 4-06 to 1-11 in a very exciting encounter in Loretto Park on Sunday afternoon.
