The Ballinteer St John’s Senior Footballers will enter the draw for the back door championship draw tomorrow with high hopes after a spirited performance against Na Fianna brought defeat. The match took place in O’Toole park in front of a big crowd who were kept entertained the whole way through the game. Ballinteer got of to the perfect start when Peter O’Curry motored up the pitch to score the opening point of the game. The game was back and forth with Ballinteer doing some incredible defending to kepp Na Fianna at bay and went in at half-time leading 6 points to 5 thanks to 2 scores from Paraic O’Conner, Ciaran Gormley and a few frees from Johnny McNally. The Ballinteer supporters applauded the lads back to the dressing room and hoped for more of the same in the second half.
The second half started off with Na Fianna scoring with 15 seconds to level the game and Na Fianna moved on from there. Na Fianna scored 4 points from four attacks half way into the second half and that practically won them the game. The match ended 14 points to 9 but the Ballinteer players can be proud of themselves and will be confident about advancing further through the back door.
