Our senior football team’s relegation battle will go down to the last game of the league after they were beaten by table toppers St. Brigid’s on Saturday evening. The match ended 1-14 to 0-10. The lads struggled to keep up with Brigid’s at the start and only for some poor shooting from Brigid’s they could of been dead and buried early on. After 20 minutes Ballinteer woke up however and started to score a few points and trailed by 6 points at half time – 0-10 to 0-4. An early goal in the second half looked to kill Ballinteer off but they battled back well and scored some great points, however eventually losing the match 1-14 to 0-10.
On Friday night our Junior A team took part in a thrilling game away to Good Counsel. The lads fought back from 6 points with 20 minutes remaining to win by 4 points. Counsel scored a lucky goal 20 minutes in which helped them to a 4 point lead at half time. Two early frees in the second half stretched their lead to 6 points and Ballinteer had a mountain to climb. Goals from Gary Mitchell and Brian Gibbons helped them claw back the difference and they never looked back and ran out eventual 4 point winners. A solid performance from Cormac O’Broin in defence and Colm Duffy on the frees helped them over the line and gets their winning form back on track.
