Saturday saw our Senior footballers take on St Annes in the second round of the Senior Football Championship but ended up on the wrong side of a one point defeat. With the squad decimated by injuries, suspensions and players on County duty things looked a bit ominous with St Annes starting the better of the two and working up a 1-03 to 0-01 headstart early on.
However Ballinteer rallied and scored eight of the next ten points to put them a point ahead ten minutes into the second half. Some fine scores Glenn Whelan, Breandan Colleran and Luke Naughton to name a few. Annes stormed back however and scored the next three to go two points clear though. Even more injuries and a black card saw three enforced substitutions but Ballinter still showed great heart and Fearghal Duffy and Luke Nuaghton both scored to pull them back level with a minute to go. There was one last sting in the tail though as St Annes broke to the other end of the pitch to nab the winning score.

The Junior As took on St Monicas in a replay of their first round Junior Championship tie in Edenmore on Sunday morning. The lads came away with a 1-10 to 1-7 victory having worked & tackled very hard. The backs led by Aiden Taheny & Shane Holland who cleaned up & were very tight. They only conceded 1-01 in the second half. There was a debut for Minor goalkeeper Isaac Tallant who had a great save near the end. Ciaran Clarke & James Oliver dominant in midfield while Shane McGreevy was a constant threat up front with great link up play with Briain McGeary & Paul Farrell who scored a great goal not long after St. Monica’s went 4 points up after scoring a penalty in the second half. David Quinn’s accurate frees gave Ballinteer the lead approaching the final whistle, which they held on to despite a nervous last few minutes!
At the same time the Junior Bs qualified for the quarter finals of the Championship with a great victory over Stars of Erin. They were dominant in the first half and went in 1-06 to 0-02 at half time with Shane Gavin getting the goal. In the second half another goal from Gavin and one from Conor Lawlor sealed the victory as they ran out 3-11 to 1-07 victors. They will take on Lucan in the Quarter Final.
