There was a mixed bag of results for the Adult Footballers this weekend with 2 wins and 2 losses.
The Senior footballers got the action started on Saturday evening with a fine win over St Peregrines in Marlay Park. They ended up 4 point winners with the score 1-12 to 1-08. They got off to a flying start and raced into an early 6 points 1 lead. Peregrines hit back though with a purple patch 10 minutes before half-time levelling the game at 7 points each at half time. A great start to the second half say Ballinteer stretch 3 points clear but a goal by Peregrines half way into the second half dragged them back into the game. A penalty coverted by Glenn Whelan with 5 minutes to go but the game beyond doubt however and Ballinteer ran out deserved winners.
The Junior A footballers travelled to Finglas on Sunday morning for a game against Erins Isle and it turned out to be a thrilling high scoring affair. Unfortuantely however, Ballinteer came out on the wrong side of a 3 point deficit – 2-13 to 2-16. Two goals in the first half had Ballinteer in contention at half time after playing into a strong wind and they trailed 2-05 to 1-12 at half time. A master free-taking display in the second half by Ronan Clabby, who scored 9 points on the day, quickly pulled the sides level and it looked like Ballinteer would kick on from there. A goal from Erin’s Isle though put a dampener on proceedings and they went on to win the game 2-16 to 2-13.
The Junior B footballers travelled to Swords to take on Finians in which they had a comfortable win by 4 points. Our Junior C team took on Lucan, in Lucan and were denied 2 points by a goal with the last kick of the game which leveled things up and ended a draw.
