The Senior football team left it late against St. Brigids in an exciting encounter in Marley Park tonight (16/06/10). The teams were level three minutes into injury time when substitute Peter O’Curry popped up to get the all important score.
The lads went behind early on to an point from Brigids and could of be behind by more only for some bad shooting by Brigids. But Johns had the perfect response when Frankie Ward buired the ball in the back of the net after Shane McCann had rattled the crossbar after great work from Feargal Duffy. It looked like Ballinteer would go from there especially after they bagged their second goal through Ciarán Judge.
They added on 2 points and had an early 7 point lead. Brigids battled their way back into the game and got a goal themselves and a few points leaving it 2-03 to 1-05. Ballinteer, though, tagged on another score with a superb free kick from Johnny McNally from outside the 45 yard line just before half time giving them a 2 point lead at half-time.
In the second half shooting seemed to be letting Ballinteer down but they managed to tag on 2 more points before Brigids got it back level with only a few minutes to go. Peter O’Curry was introduced and proved to be the difference between the sides scoring the winning point deep into injury time. The game ended 2-07 to 1-09.
