Under 11 Footballers taste victory at Colmcilles’ Invitational Tournament.
Congratulations to the under 11 football panel that showed real grit and determination coupled with high levels of skill to win the St. Colmcilles’ invitational tournament in Co. Meath on Sunday. They had to overcome some worthy opposition during the group stage, beating Trim, Colmcilles from Meath and St Eunan’s of Letterkenny. By topping the group with three convincing wins Ballinteer were pitted against a hotly tipped Kilmacud Crokes team in the semi final. It looked ominous early on when Crokes showed their customary composure and built up an eight point lead. However, our boys dug deep and displayed resolve to overcome what seemed to the doubters like an insurmountable lead and came out eventual winners after a string of brilliant goals.
Our opponents in the final were the host club St Colmcilles who were also one of the favourites and this encounter proved to be another nail biter. This time the lads were down six points in the opening stages but again our forward play came to the fore and once again the goals came for Ballinteer. Colmcilles pushed us to the end as was expected from a team of serious quality and their final goal, which came just seconds before full time, showed that this was a team who never give up. BSJ under 11’s were eventual winners but only by the tightest of margins, a single point ensured that the day would be ours.
Thank you to Colmcilles for inviting us to their tournament which was really well run and to all in their club who showed our team and mentors the best of hospitality. We look forward to them coming to Marley Park in the near future.
Well done to the under 11 football panel. There will be even stiffer tests ahead no doubt. Enjoy the moment and we’ll see you back at training….!
